City of Hope orphanage in ZambiaOur volunteering experience at the City of Hope orphanage in Zambia made a huge impact on our lives and indeed on the lives of the children we teach. It was very rewarding for the children of St. Senan’s N.S. to see and hear about the direct impact of the money they helped raise. We were amazed to see how some of the most vulnerable children in the world can offer so much with their beautiful smiles, friendship and zest for life. We were privileged to be part of such a happy and welcoming community who left no stone unturned to share their cultures and kindness with us. We have continued to share cultures by children from Scoil Realt na Mara, Kilkee, St. Senan’s N.S., Kilrush and City of Hope children writing penpal letters.

It is fair to say that we have certainly gained a lot from this experience and in truth we received a lot more than what we gave. We were touched by the generosity of the sisters who welcomed us to their family so graciously. The children in the City Of Hope were inspirational to us. They were such positive, sweet girls who always had a smile on their face. It was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to live with them during our time in Africa. We are forever grateful to Vides for giving us this opportunity to work in the City of Hope. It was an overwhelming experience which will stay in our hearts forever.
