How to Get Involved

Did you ever feel sad when you saw refugees’ faces?
Did you ever feel like you owned too much compared to starving people?
Did you ever wish you could do more than just give money in a collection basket?
Did you ever feel you should go the extra mile and didn’t know where to start?
Do you want to volunteer abroad in Africa, Asia or Latin America?

Maybe joining VIDES Ireland is one way for you to do something about it!

VIDES volunteers serve together with members of the worldwide Salesian family, making efforts to be transformational leaders in society by living simply and by serving the poor, especially young people and women.

It is experiencing and sharing the Life in Christ.

Requirements

• Knowledge of language spoken in the mission
• Attendance at formation / preparation meetings
• Good physical / mental / emotional health
• Desire to work with young people and women
• Open to cultural differences
• Flexible and prepared to meet unexpected challenges
• Have a strong sense of God in their lives
• Generosity
• Sense of humour
• 2 year commitment to VIDES
• Agree to VIDES Code of Good Practice

Financial Arrangements

• VIDES provides the volunteer with room & board.
• Volunteers are responsible for transport costs & personal expenses.

Levels of Involvement

Volunteers are those aged 20 or more,  who will share their time and gifts serving in a mission (where Salesian Sisters Work).

They can also be involved nationally – to be developed here in Ireland. Must give at least 6 weeks working in the mission.

Membership

Members share their experience, time, talent and resources to support and carry on the VIDES Vision of helping other volunteers serve those in need.
